Oikotree  Movement Draws Road Map for Theological Reflection, Education and Action on Land Issues

The Oikotree Facilitators’ Group met in Sangnamgwan, Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea from 6 – 9 July 2015 has called on global and regional ecumenical movements to work on transformative theological reflection, education and action, especially focusing on land issues. Land is “God’s creation,” “relationship,” “gift and calling,” reflects an upcoming Oikotree publication.

The Oikotree movement was initiated by the Council for World Mission (CWM), World Communion of Reformed Churches and World Council of Churches as an ecumenical space where people may seek solidarity in faith while living in the midst of threats based on economic injustice and ecological destruction.

Conveners of the working groups ontransformative theology, transformative education, joint struggles, networking and communications, resource mobilization and staff representatives from the three sponsoring bodies collectively discussed and planned common activities and strategies.

The meeting developed a road map for the next three years, includingthe conduct of regional workshops on life-affirming epistemologies, the organization of a theological conference on land,as well as solidarity visits to and spaces to listen and learning from communities and movements struggling in defense of land and life.

On behalf of the global Oikotree Movement, the group expressed their appreciation and gratitude to Rev. Randolph Turner, who completes his term at the CWM in September 2015, for his committed support and constant accompaniment in this faith journey of promoting justice for the economy and the earth.
