Modern Slavery

Modern slavery exist everywhere in the form of human trafficking, forced labour, child slavery etc.. It dehumanizes a person, it enslaved a person, it forces a person against his will , it imprisoned a person to forced labour, it violates a person’s human right and dignity to be human.

FACTS & FIGURES  (International Labour Organization ILO)

  • Almost 21 million people are victims of forced labour – 11.4 million women and girls and 9.5 million men and boys.

  • Almost 19 million victims are exploited by private individuals or enterprises and over 2 million by the state or rebel groups.

  • Of those exploited by individuals or enterprises, 4.5 million are victims of forced sexual exploitation.

  • Those who exact forced labour generate vast illegal profits.

  • Domestic work, agriculture, construction, manufacturing and entertainment are among the sectors most concerned.

  • Migrant workers and indigenous people are particularly vulnerable to forced labour.

Victims of modern slavery are found to be getting younger, to the age of boy and girls at 5 or younger. Many are being tricked or forced into situations where they are exploited and no longer able to find a way out of the situation.
In fact, modern slavery generates high profits to the “slave-drivers”. Many may not be even aware that the consumer goods we use daily are produced by forced labour & child labour.
